Philosophy musings - unifying theme

Many of us have exclaimed aloud sometime or the other time "what I am doing here?". Is this a primordial call from within to find answer to the long sought mystery of why the human being took birth on earth in an almost barren universe (?), the purpose and meaning of life. Since human civilization took form on earth, man has been tying to find the connection between  himself and the rest of the universe.

When the Sun rises and sets dutifully everyday, is it's purpose solely to support life on earth? If the distance between Sun and Earth would have been few thousand kilometers more or less, life on earth would have ceased to exist. Is it a coincidence that Sun is exactly where it is or there is a larger purpose behind it?

Is there a Unifying Theme that binds all of us including plants, animals and all the life and inanimate matter around us in the universe? Ancient philosophers looked up in the sky to seek the answers. Ancient Indian Vedantists on the other hand try to delve within. They believed that the knowledge and truth about the universe, the unifying theme that binds us is already within us. We do not have to look anywhere else but within ourselves.

"The ultimate truth of this connection lies in our inner universe so vast and splendid that one has to delve deep and probe in to it in order to discover the eternal truth".
